Nottingham to Paris 2009

In April 2009 we (Glen & Greg) are cycling from Nottingham to Paris, because we want to.

We also want you to join us for parts (or all) of the journey. Get in touch if can you cycle 50+ miles a day with a hangover.

Sometimes Car Beats Bike

Greg and I embarked on a leisurely 25 miles to Colly’s mate’s pub in Branston (approximate route: here).

We had considered riding back but it was getting late and we didn’t have lights or the will to leave the pub without another beer. Colly’s 1970’s Datsun 120Y to the rescue. It’s surprising how many bikes you can fit in a car if the alternative is to ride the bike home into a brisk headwind. Colly found the sight of us trying to fit the bikes into his car amusing and rather than helping thought it better to take photos.

The ride, if you fancy it, was excellent and there’s a fairly epic hill about three quarters of the way there which should give you a sense of achievement and an amazing view over Nottinghamshire – and what better reward than the food server at the Wheel Inn. We recommend it.

It’s a generous man that allows dismantled bikes in the back of his high quality vehicle… super photos.

Thinking about it, I couldn’t be more envious of this entire caper.

    Top drawer stuff.

It was indeed generous, especially so considering the proximity of our greasy chains to Collison’s nice leather interior.

Thanks for your comment mate, but envy can go two ways. I’ve just had a butchers at your site and some of your regular routes - they look epic.

    Loving your work.

Sure envy’s a 2-way door. I tend to ride alone and I often miss the quite literally intoxicating blend of a fine ride, in fine company to a fine hostelry for a big pile of some fine, brown booze. Throw in a headwind avoiding lift home in a fine vehicle and you sir, have all bases covered.

All that, plus a super caper to train for and a delightfully designed website to blog about it on? Well, Chapeaux! to you.

Very much looking forward to the next installment. Champion.
